A scholarship program for outstanding students with interests and achievements in geospatial technologies is being established in honor of Jeni Karadjova — founder of Esri Bulgaria and a pioneer in the field of GIS in Bulgaria. For three decades, Jeni Karadjova has played a leading role in the advancement of geospatial technologies and in the implementation of some of the country’s most significant national systems.
Under her leadership, Esri Bulgaria has worked on large-scale projects in the fields of cadastre, environment, water management, agriculture, energy, transportation, healthcare, defense, and local government. These include solutions developed for the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Agency, the Ministry of Environment and Water, the National Electric Company, Sofiyska Voda, the National Railway Infrastructure Company, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, and numerous Bulgarian municipalities.
In addition to her professional contributions, Jeni Karadjova has remained deeply committed to community development and education in the sector. She is the initiator of the “GIS at School” program, which provides students and teachers with access to modern technologies and educational resources. For more than two decades, she has also organized GIS Day in Bulgaria — the largest professional event in the sector in the country, bringing together hundreds of experts, representatives of institutions, businesses, universities, and the educational community.
The scholarship named after Jeni Karadjova is intended for Bulgarian students enrolled in full-time degree programs related to geospatial technologies and their applications. Applicants must have completed at least one academic year and maintain a minimum GPA equivalent to Very Good (5.00). Distinctions in national and international competitions and olympiads in geography, IT, or related disciplines, as well as participation in conferences and publications in the field of GIS, will be considered an advantage.
Among the required application documents is an original essay on the topic: “My Future with GIS for a Better Future of Bulgaria.”
The selected candidate will receive coverage of tuition fees for one academic year, mentorship support from the Esri Bulgaria team, participation in the Esri Conference in Europe, and a two-year ArcGIS Personal Use license after graduation.
Application documents for the 2026/2027 academic year are accepted until June 15, 2026, via email at training@esribulgaria.com with Ref. No.: SCL26.
