The six best map drawings will represent Bulgaria at the International Competition “Barbara Petchenik” in Washington, USA this July.
Sofia, 15 March 2017 - ESRI Bulgaria continues its tradition to support the young cartographers of Bulgaria and once again became a partner of the National Contest for Children’s Map of the World. The jubilee 10th edition was held under the slogan “We love maps” and is part of the International Barbara Petchenik Children’s World Map Drawing Competition, established by the International Cartographic Association (ICA). The official organizer at a national level is the Bulgarian Cartographic Association, in cooperation with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy and more.
More than 200 children between 3 and 15 years from all parts of the country took part in the competition this year. The winners in the various categories were awarded at a special ceremony held at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy. The children received numerous presents and presented their original drawings and cartographic interpretations of the Earth to the audience.
The national jury awarded first place to the 12 years old Seline Musa from Kazanlak, Bulgaria for her drawing “Unity”. Here it is:
