The award is for the innovative GIS platform implemented by Esri Bulgaria for all work processes related to gasification in our country.

During the Esri International User Conference held in July in San Diego, USA, the president of Esri Inc. Jack Dangermond also announced this year’s winners of the highest prize in the field of geospatial technologies – the Special Achievements in GIS Award. The honors are awarded to 1/20 of 1 percent of the best GIS projects worldwide.

In 2021, the management of Overgas decided to modernize its existing GIS system, as its toolkit was already morally obsolete and stopped maintenance. Many functionalities have been implemented piecemeal, which has become a prerequisite for an inconsistent GIS database, difficulty for operators to work with it, and many other problems.

The company is approaching the construction of an innovative corporate GIS system that is process-oriented and covers all business processes in the Overgas system that need GIS data.

Partners of Overgas in this project are Esri Bulgaria and Metodia AD. After a thorough analysis by the specialists of Esri Bulgaria, the identified solution suitable for the needs of the largest gas distribution company in our country is based on ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Dashboard, ArcGIS Collector, ArcGIS for AutoCAD, and other Esri components.

The implemented innovative Esri GIS platform achieves a large organizational scope and is a useful tool for many teams in the company, which organizes and directs the information flow. The main results of its implementation are high quality and integrity of data, better control and management of activities, automation of network planning and design activities, optimization of maintenance and operation processes, reduction of costs for attracting and joining customers, and of course, higher quality of Overgas services for its end users.
