“Capture the beauty of Bulgaria through your photo lens” is the motto of the first of its kind competition in Bulgaria, which will combine GIS technology and photography with the mission to show beautiful Bulgaria on an interactive map.
06 November 2020 – On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Esri Bulgaria and in connection with the World Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day celebration, the company announced the start of a National photography competition entitled “Favourite places on the Map of Bulgaria”.
The competition is organized in partnership with National Geographic Bulgaria and PhotoPavilion and aims to provide an opportunity for everyone to show and promote their favourite places in Bulgaria, sharing their beautiful discoveries, including natural, cultural, archaeological, historical and others, through photographs taken by them.
Within a month, anyone can enter the contest with an unlimited number of photos, smaller than 10 MB each, by sending them via this web GIS form https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/b537c4ed1c78458183367a2d1bd2fab3 created with Survey123. The photos should be accompanied by a short captivating title, as well as information about their location.
At the end, an interactive GIS map with the most favourite and impressive corners of Bulgaria will be created through all eligible photographs. A map that will allow anyone with just a few clicks to see a virtually beautiful Bulgaria, shot through the lenses of the contestants.
Three of all photographs will be selected by a special jury in first, second and third place, and their authors will win vouchers for a photography course from the Photo Pavilion. The big winner also wins a voucher worth BGN 300 for the purchase of photo or video equipment, accessories or consumables of their choice from the stores of Fotopavilion. The winners will be announced in early December on the Esri Bulgaria website and Facebook page. More information about the competition and the conditions for participation can be found here.
The photo contest is a continuation of Esri Bulgaria mission to develop and promote the use of geospatial technologies in various fields in our country. It is organized on the occasion of the celebration of the World Geographic Information Systems Day on November 18, whose official organizer for the country is Esri Bulgaria, and which for more than 20 years has been the main platform for sharing and exchanging experience, presenting innovations in the field of geospatial technologies.
