GIS of Asenovgrad Municipality with BAIT award

BAIT rewarded the Municipality of Asenovgrad with a prize for the development of Esri Bulgaria Geographic Information System for tourist attractions.

On 22.01.2013, at an official ceremony at the Grand Hotel Sofia, were awarded the annual awards of the Bulgarian Association of Information Technologies (BAIT) for significant contribution to the development of information and communication technologies in the last year in our country.The event was held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Rosen Plevneliev.

Nominated in this year’s contest competed in 11 categories.In the category “Municipal Administration” the award went to Asenovgrad Municipality for the development of GIS tourist attractions.The award was received the mayor, Dr. Emil Karaivanov.

“The project, implemented successfully by ESRI Bulgaria is unique for Bulgaria and has no analogue”, said Dr.Karaivanov after receiving the prize.The project created an electronic register of information on the rich heritage and natural attractions in the municipality, allowing their efficient management. The special web geoportal allowing its visitors to walk around the map of the municipality and to explore the tourist attractions of its territory. The developed 3D models and virtual tour of the fortress contribute to a more attractive, interesting and modern promotion of the tourist attractions.

“Geographic Information System in Asenovgrad Municipality meets the best international practices and is a completely new model for the country to promote the tourist attractions,” said Dr. Emil Karaivanov.
