A technical conference “20 Years Designing the World Together through GIS” brings leading world and Bulgarian specialists in Sofia.
On November 14th, 2018, Bulgaria will be among the 60 countries that will celebrate the International Day of the Geographic Information System (GIS), demonstrating how GIS technologies make a difference in all aspects of our modern society.
At the GIS Conference in Sofia Hotel Balkan, entitled “20 Years We Design the World Together”, leading world and Bulgarian experts will present the latest technological capabilities of the Geographic Information Systems and their application in various fields including environment, security, engineering infrastructure, city planning and development, and many more.
The prestigious event is organized by ESRI Bulgaria in partnership with more than 30 industry, academia, non-governmental, and media organizations. It aims to promote the Geospatial technologies and serves as a meeting point for GIS specialists from the business, government and education sector where they can share their experience, achievements, and vision for the development of GIS in Bulgaria. The forum is open for GIS experts and enthusiasts from different fields.
To mark the anniversary, ESRI Bulgaria organized a number of other events in order to present the Geographic Information Systems and their role in our daily life to the general public.
A National Map Contest, entitled “Rediscovering Bulgaria with GIS”, challenges all GIS fans in Bulgaria to tell their unique story on a map. Each participant can use one of the specially developed ready-to-use applications to create an interactive story map narrative text, images, and multimedia content with the geography universal language. Both organizations and individuals can participate in the contest. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: history and culture, education, travel and tourism, sustainable development. The deadline for participation is November 11, 2018.
The winners will be awarded on November 14, 2018, in Sofia Hotel Balkan and the names of the winners in each category will be announced publicly within 5 days from the end of the Competition on the Esri Bulgaria website and Facebook page.
