Sofia, 7th of August 2014 – Communities in every country are impacted by disasters. The forecast for continued climate-related disasters is that they will continue to worsen. For establishing the needed resistance to their occurrence, we need more information, risk analysis, preventive and timely actions.

Therefore Esri launches Global Disaster Resilience App Challenge for developing GIS applications that increase awareness and defend against natural disasters. Join the initiative and become part of the many scientists, GIS specialists and developers around the world, who make our cities more sustainable and ourselves better prepared for the natural disasters.

The best app developers will be awarded with $10,000!

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) provides a list of essential strategies that apps should address.  List strategies, applications ideas and more information can be found on the website of Global Disasters App Challenge. Esri has also published Official Rules and Guidelines for participation in the initiative.

The submission deadline is August 27, 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Daylight Time).

Let us face up the challenges of nature. But this time, let us be prepared for them!
