On the trail of Ebola virus from 1976 to nowadays

Esri UK developed an interactive Web GIS map showing the 40th years history of Ebola virus.

Sofia, 21th of August, 2014 – Esri UK developed an interactive Web GIS map showing the 40th years history of Ebola virus – from the first known case in the Democratic Republic of Congo to the ongoing crisis in Western Africa.

The Web GIS map as a cinematographic film goes through all the registered outbreaks and known facts, connected with the deadly virus. Moreover, it presents rich pictures and statistics, allowing users to answer basic questions such as where, when, what and how. While scientists are in search of the natural source of Ebola, the map tells about reported cases of infecting with the dangerous virus after contact with infected animals.

For the development of the map, Esri UK used ArcGIS Online, which provides intuitive and easy-to-use tools for creating, publishing and sharing GIS information and functionality. Moreover, Esri GIS technology allows direct integration and publication of the Web GIS map into websites to allow it to reach more readers.
