3 medals for Bulgaria from the International Geography Olympiad

The team is financially supported by Esri Bulgaria.

From July 12 to 17, this year’s geography competition for students from all over the world took place online. The Bulgarian team showed very good knowledge, and the students in it won 3 silver medals. These achievements set this year’s national performance at the International Geography Olympiad as the second best in 20 years.

The three medalists are: Daniel Dimitrov, 11th grade, MG “Dr. Petar Beron”, Varna; Mihail Paskalev, 10th grade, MG “Dr. Petar Beron”, Varna and Denis Urumov, 11th grade, 91. NEG “Prof. Konstantin Galabov”, Sofia. The fourth participant in the Bulgarian team – Plamen Milanov, 11th grade, PMG “Vasil Drumev”, Veliko Tarnovo – fell just short of a medal.

The leaders of the national geography team are associate professor. Dr. Dimitar Zhelev, lecturer at the Faculty of Geology and Geography of SU “St. Kliment Ohridski” and private secondary school “Izzi Science for Kids” and Neli Petrova, director of I English Language School Sofia.

For another year, Esri Bulgaria supported the talented young geographers as a sponsor of the team, which performed so well at the international scientific competition.
