Frontex informs about the COVID-19 Restrictions with GIS Map

Еveryone who is about to travel in Europe will be able to see the measures that are still in force in different countries.

13 May 2020 - The European Agency for Management of External Borders — Frontex published a map with the current restrictions and opportunities to travel in Europe in order to limit coronavirus infection. This makes it possible to gather information for both the temporary restrictions imposed throughout the European Union (EU) and the Schengen area, as well as information about the United Kingdom. The map, created with the most powerful mapping & spatial analytics Esri GIS technology, is part of the European Agency’s measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 15 the European Commission’s recommendation for non-compulsory travel for European citizens expires. So, after this date, everyone who plans to travel in any European country will be able to find the latest measures in force in different countries on the Frontex map. For example, the map will provide information about whether the period of the state of emergency continues, whether traveling is allowed and by what type of transport, as well as a number of other clarifications.

The GIS map is available here and is updated regularly in tie with the development of the situation.

Frontex and many more European agencies have years of experience in using Esri GIS technology for effective and appropriate implementation of its initiatives. For the first time in Bulgaria, during the 18th World GIS Day, another Frontex`s system for dealing with illegal migration and cross-border crime through GIS was presented.
