GIS Day Conference, November 2020 

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of ESRI Bulgaria and in connection with the World GIS Day in Bulgaria on November 18, in partnership with National Geographic Bulgaria and PhotoPavilion, with we are pleased to invite you to participate in the first of its kind competition in our country, which combines GIS technology and photography:


Capture the beauty of Bulgaria through your Camera lens

We invite all amateur and professional photographers to show their unique perspective on the beauty of our country through photos. You can focus on a variety of your discoveries, including natural, cultural, archaeological, historical sites, landscapes or fascinating urban scenes, etc. In the end, an interactive GIS map with the most favorite and impressive corners of the country will be created through all the shots. A map that will allow anyone with just a few clicks to see a virtually beautiful Bulgaria, shot through the lenses of the large palette of contestants.

Rules for participation  

All interested individuals, amateurs and professional photographers have the right to participate in the competition, without age restrictions. Anyone can join with an unlimited number of original photos, with a size of less than 10 MB each. Participation files are submitted sequentially via this web GIS form: . The footages must be accompanied by a short title as well as information about their location. There is no limit to when the shots are taken.

Before uploading your photos, please keep in mind that they should be copyrighted, authentically reproduced or further processed and meet the 3 criteria: have the potential to be shared, be original, without their shooting endangering the health and the life of their author and / or other participants. The images must not include photographed people and comply with Bulgarian law, public order and good manners. The full conditions of the competition can be found here.


Three of all photographs will be selected by a special jury in first, second, and third place, and their authors will win vouchers for a photo course from the Photo Pavilion. The big winner also wins a voucher worth BGN 300 for the purchase of photo or video equipment, accessories, or consumables of their choice from the stores of Fotopavilion.


Deadline for sending the photos: 04.12.2020.
The winners will be announced on 15.12.2020 on Esri Bulgaria website and Facebook page. The winners will also receive an email from us at the email address with which they registered to participate.

And here are the winners who took the leading positions in the competition:

  • I place: Vladislav Chanev with a photo of Polsko-skakavishki waterfall, Polska skakavitsa village, Kyustendil Municipality
  • II place: Elena Bozhkova, with a photo “Where time has stopped”, Sinemorets, Veleka beach seen from above
  • III place: Borislav Uzunov with a photo Chapel “St. Joan Letni ”, on one of the hills above Pchelina Dam
  • The organizers also awarded two special prizes to Nesi Arnaud for the photo “God’s caress” of the monastery “St. Ivan Rilski ”and Georgi Raev for a photo“ Below the peak ”on Malyovitsa peak in Rila.
